Internships

What's an Internship?

Unlike traditional work experience, this isn't just work-shadowing. We've spoken - and continue to speak to - young people and employers to find out what they both want from a work placement.

The result is a network of some of Manchester's most interesting and forward-thinking employers offering placements throughout the year for well-motivated students aged 17+.

The projects are designed by employees in the organisations - known as Mentors - to fulfil a genuine business need, meaning that Interns get the benefit of their experience while being challenged to take responsibility in the workplace.

Manchester Internships focuses on flexibility - for the particpating employers, academies, schools and colleges. Student Interns have a total of 20 days to work on their Internship project with the Mentor in the participating organisation. Projects are designed to fit around Interns' studies. Since attendance patterns at school or college vary according to which course the student is taking, there are several Internship delivery options:

  • over a four-week block (usually during the summer vacation)
  • 1 day a week for 20 weeks
  • 2 blocks of 10 days
  • 2 days a week for 10 weeks

Project details for Manchester Internships, to be undertaken from September 2010, can be viewed by selecting the Internships Projects option on the left hand side of this page.

We'll be updating the website with exciting new projects throughout the year, so keep checking back, as more opportunities will become available. Just remember to check the closing dates and submit your application on time to avoid disappointment.
